In 2019, there was no "real" reason I needed to create a podcast.

A quick Google search revealed hundreds of existing podcasts already on the subject - not exactly the combination of "mythology and masculinity" that I envisioned, but many nonetheless.

I told myself all the excuses:

I don't know how to make one. Other podcasts are better than I could ever create. Who wants to hear what I have to say?

And yet, a tiny voice inside urged me to keep going anyway. Sure, there were plenty of podcasts out there, but none would be my unique contribution.

When I was courageous enough to hear this voice, I felt I did have something to say that wasn't being said. It felt like it mattered.

And so: The Mythic Masculine was born.

54+ episodes and 300,000+ downloads later, it's been one of the most creative and spiritually satisfying endeavours I'd ever embarked upon.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Ian MacKenzie has been an unconventional storyteller for over 15+ years. He began as a documentary filmmaker, tracking the global emergence of new culture, from the heart of Burning Man to Occupy Wall St. In 2012, he began speaking and teaching the techniques of crowdfunding to support other creative activists bring their projects to the world. In 2019, Ian launched The Mythic Masculine podcast, weaving conversations on emerging masculinities. In 2020, he founded A Gathering of Stories, a live series of events that weave stories, poetry, and song. In 2021, he co-led The Pandemic Is a Prism, which was also released as a podcast.
